The project addresses questions such as: How can architectural history be brought to life? What do the residents have to say about their town? What do they remember about their city? But also: How can actions and performances in public space be documented? How can the “now”, the moment, be transferred into a long-term archive?

As part of this project, Christina Lederhaas and Ana Redi-Milatovic developed the performance - or rather the artistic city tour - “Damals 2024”. The performance is based on interviews with contemporary witnesses and virulent themes and memories among the population as well as on the architectural history of Ybbs, documented in the project. On the tour, the performers take a curious look from the future into the Ybbs of 2024 and read the stories inscribed in the architectural cultural heritage against the grain.

For this 60-minute performance I had the pleasure to develop a soundtrack. Based on field recordings made in the town of Ybbs for the project, I worked with atmospheric sounds as well as interviews with contemporary witnesses by Sylvia Petrovic-Majer. Through sound I made invisible stories of buildings audible and historical events, such as the floods that plagued Ybbs in the past, emotionally tangible. In addition to soundscapes, I also developed several original scores for this piece.

A documentary recording of the performance gives an impression of the sound experience.

During the performance, the sound was implemented as a live broadcast on headphones using a silent disco system. The visitors and performers all received headphones on which the live sound could be heard. Through a mixture of live-triggered and pre-programmed audio sequences, the soundtrack was adapted live to the performance and the conditions on the tour, but also served as a guide for the players.

Photos: CC-BY-NC-SA 4.0 OpenGLAM.at | Ybbs 4 Dimensionen

www: https://ybbs.4dimensionen.eu
